ABOUT US

ABOUT ME

Unless it involved an engine or a car since 1988, Shane's attention for extracting performance as well as reliability from any type of engine has never altered. Leaving school to work at his father’s mechanical / smash repair garage it wasn't long before fast cars had become his life.  At 17 he assembled his first Holden V8 that ran 11 second quarters at over 120 MPH and by 19 had built the first carbureted Holden with VN heads using a prototype intake manifold in Qld that would regularly turn past 9000RPM.
In 1994 Shane started working for the late Mick Atholwood. A well-respected place specialising in racing engines of all classes that also held multiple national records from sprint car engines right through to top fuel. By this stage cylinder head porting and flow testing played a major role in Shane's engine development and it started to show, a national record in 6 cylinder hydrofoil class (105MPH) average and breaking a long-standing world record held by Jack Roush with a Ford, this flowed over V8 supercars, and in 2001 a set of his modified cylinder heads were on the front row at Bathurst.
Shane started full-time employment at Powertorque Engines, where blue printing and assembling any form of an engine could be one day, followed by a head and cam package the next. A merge with Walkinshaw performance opened yet another chapter that involved modifying brand new HSV's, supercharging, cams, suspension or a full exhaust. In 2007 whilst Shane still worked for Powertorque, Mick Atholwood recorded a 4.91@283 MPH in their top fuel dragster using Shane Alex cylinder heads ported from raw billets 10 years previous.
In 2014 Shane Alex Engines was reborn and hit the ground running.
